Security Alert Issued for Bhaderwah Winter Festival
As the upcoming five-day winter festival approaches in the Bhaderwah valley of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda, a senior police officer has stressed the need for heightened vigilance in the district. The event, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, aims to attract tourists and New Year revelers.
During a Subsidiary Multi-Agency Centre (SMAC) meeting attended by officers from the Army, Central Armed Police Force, and intelligence agencies, Doda’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Abdul Qayoom, emphasized the importance of a coordinated security effort for the festival’s success.
Participants at the meeting shared their perspectives, suggestions, and assessments of the district’s current security scenario. They engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the present security situation and formulated a joint strategy for an effective monitoring and security surveillance mechanism on the ground.
SSP Abdul Qayoom, addressing the gathering, urged officers to maintain alertness and vigilance in their respective areas, considering the expected influx of tourists during the Bhaderwah winter festival. Officers were advised to implement effective area domination and surveillance to counter anti-social elements. Additionally, social media monitoring was recommended to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors that could disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the district.
The ‘Vibrant Bhaderwah Winter Festival,’ scheduled from December 27 to December 31, will feature various activities at prominent locations such as Qilla (Fort), Jae Valley, Guldanda, and Gatha Park. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience local cuisines at these destinations.
Bhaderwah, an emerging tourist destination, continues to attract a significant number of tourists from across the country and abroad, showcasing its potential to become a favored destination. The district has welcomed over 6.5 lakh tourists this year, underlining its growing significance in the tourism industry.
In a parallel development, SSP Abdul Qayoom inaugurated a retired police personnel grievance cell at the district police lines in Doda. The cell aims to educate retired personnel about the benefits provided by the department and address their concerns. During an interaction with retired police personnel and the families of deceased cops, various issues and demands were raised, including special reservations for the wards of retired and slain police personnel in government jobs and the organization of medical camps.
