Residential house gutted in fire incident in Marmat; Residents protested, demand Fire Service facility in Marmat
A massive fire engulfed a three-story residential house in Marmat, gutting the top two stories. The house, owned by Ghulam Ali, a carpenter, caught fire around 2:00 PM due to a gas cylinder explosion.
Residents from nearby Dehra, Ahmedabad village and surrounding areas attempted to extinguish the flames, managing to save only the ground floor. The fire service, dispatched from Doda, took over an hour to arrive, by which time the top floors were completely destroyed. The delay led to visible cracks in the house structure.
Following the incident, residents of Moothi, Prabble, Labbar Sarak, and Mangota protested against the lack of a local fire tender service in Marmat. Syed from Mangota criticized the administration for failing to provide this essential service, emphasizing the necessity for immediate compensation for the fire victims.
Shams Din echoed these concerns, highlighting the administration’s neglect. Mohd Akram from Bhonta, Prabble, also expressed frustration, urging the DDC Marmat, DC Doda, and LG Manoj Sinha to address the issue promptly. He warned that residents might take to the streets if their demand for a local fire service is not met.
Marmat Tehsil is 30 kilometers from the district headquarters in Doda. Given the distance, fire tenders take over an hour to reach Marmat, making timely intervention impossible. Residents cited a previous fire incident in Goha, Marmat, where delayed response led to the destruction of multiple shops.
The residents of Marmat have appealed to the administration to establish a fire tender service near Bhargran to ensure timely response and prevent future tragedies. The community remains vigilant and committed to pushing for better emergency services to protect their lives and properties.
