Rescue Operation Launched After Glacier Collapse in Sonamarg

A sudden glacier collapse at Thajwas Glacier in Sonamarg today triggered a dramatic rescue operation. As tourists were admiring the scenic beauty of the glacier, a section unexpectedly broke off, causing two tourists and a local guide to fall into a crevasse.
Thanks to the swift response by locals and the Sonamarg Police, including the Tourist Police, the two tourists were quickly rescued and found to be safe and unharmed. However, the local guide remains missing, prompting an ongoing search and rescue operation. Authorities have mobilized additional resources to aid in the search for the missing individual, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
In a separate tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy drowned in an irrigation canal in the Thune area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday.
