Rescue Efforts Intensify for Trapped Workers in Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse
Critical Rescue Operation in Progress In Uttarakhand, a major rescue operation is underway to evacuate 40 workers trapped inside a collapsed tunnel. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 12th at an under-construction tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway.
Advanced Techniques for Evacuation
Rescue teams are employing advanced methods to reach the trapped individuals. Trucks carrying 900 mm diameter pipes have been brought in to create a platform for an auger machine. This machine will drill horizontally and insert large metal pipes through the debris, forming a passage to rescue the workers.
Government’s Proactive Measures
- Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally inspected the site and is closely monitoring the situation.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have inquired about the ongoing efforts.
- The Uttarakhand government has formed a six-member expert committee to investigate the cause of the tunnel collapse.
Current Status of Rescue Operations
- As of the latest updates, over 20 meters of the 60-meter debris has been cleared.
- Continuous contact is maintained with the trapped laborers to keep their morale up.
- The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is spearheading the rescue operation, with hopes of completing the operation by the night of November 14th.
