Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has made history by becoming the fastest bowler to reach 600 wickets in T20 cricket. He achieved this milestone during the Trent Rockets’ match against the Manchester Originals in The Hundred competition in the UK on Monday.
In a spell of 20 balls, Rashid took two wickets for 24 runs, dismissing Wayne Madsen and Paul Walter. This match format features 100 balls per inning, with each over consisting of five balls. Rashid accomplished the 600-wicket milestone in his 438th inning, a record in T20 cricket.
Now, with 441 matches under his belt, he has taken 600 wickets at an average of 18.25, with his best bowling figures being 6/17.
He is the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket history, following Dwayne Bravo, who has 630 wickets in 578 matches and is still active in franchise cricket.
In the match, Manchester won the toss and elected to field first. Trent Rockets posted a total of 145/7 in their 100 balls, thanks to crucial knocks from Tom Banton (45 in 22 balls) and Rovman Powell (27 in 17 balls). Tom Hartley took three wickets for Manchester, while Sikandar Raza claimed two.
During the chase, Manchester Originals came close but fell short by a run, finishing at 144/8. Notable performances came from Max Holden (40 in 37 balls), Wayne Madsen (28 in 20 balls), and Paul Walter (29 in 15 balls).
For Trent Rockets, Rashid Khan, Imad Wasim, and Sam Cook each took two wickets, sealing a thrilling victory for their side.
