Rare Roose Kat Musk Deer Captured Alive in Kashmir, Heads to Dachigam Sanctuary for Conservation

In the northern region of Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a seldom-seen musk deer, popularly referred to as the ‘roose kat,’ has been successfully apprehended in the Chandeji forest area, as per wildlife authorities’ reports on Tuesday.

According to a wildlife representative, the musk deer was spotted wandering in the Chandeji forests, prompting local residents to capture the elusive creature alive.

This particular musk deer holds the status of an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List).

Plans are underway to transport the deer to the Dachigam wildlife sanctuary to ensure its protection and conservation.
