Rajnath Singh Reviews Security Situation in Border Districts of Jammu and Kashmir
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a visit to the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on assessing the security scenario along the Line of Control (LoC). Singh personally evaluated the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in both districts, specifically considering the recent ambush by terrorists in the Surankote area of Poonch that resulted in the loss of four soldiers on December 21.
Accompanied by Army Chief General Manoj Pande, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Singh arrived in Rajouri district to review the situation firsthand. Following this, he held a private security review meeting at Raj Bhawan upon his return.
Officials reported that Singh received comprehensive briefings on the prevailing security conditions, the counter-infiltration mechanism, and the preparedness of operations. During discussions with commanders on the ground, Singh emphasized the importance of professionalism and meticulousness in carrying out operations, considering the challenges faced.
The Defence Minister expressed contentment regarding the collaborative efforts among security forces, civil administration, J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and other security agencies. He highlighted their unified stance, conveying a resolute message aimed at enhancing the security environment, ultimately fostering developmental opportunities within the Union Territory.
Singh also praised the local populace for their resilience and contribution to the government’s initiatives aimed at assimilating into the mainstream. Stressing the need for collective resolve, he underscored that a shared vision for the nation’s well-being is vital for achieving peace and development in the region.
Earlier, on December 25, Army Chief Gen Pande had visited the Rajouri-Poonch sector, urging the army personnel to maintain professionalism and determination in facing challenges. He reiterated the army’s commitment to upholding human rights and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violations.
