Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Flags Off Anti-Drugs Bicycle Rally
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while flagging off a bicycle rally as part of an anti-drugs campaign, spoke against the negative portrayal of Punjabis as drug addicts. He emphasized that this stereotype was part of a malicious campaign to tarnish the state’s image, ignoring the significant contributions of Punjabis to the country as its “sword arm” and “food bowl.”
Bicycle Rally in Fight Against Drugs
Over 25,000 people participated in the rally, which began at the Punjab Agricultural University campus. The event was not just a show of strength, but a symbolic gesture to move Punjab forward, as stated by Mann. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu claimed it to be the country’s biggest bicycle rally organized as part of an anti-drug campaign.
Punjab’s Crusade Against Narco-Terrorism
Mann highlighted Punjab’s history of valiantly facing foreign invaders and its current battle against narco-terrorism, which is allegedly funded by anti-Punjab forces aiming to derail the state’s progress. He expressed confidence in overcoming these challenges and envisioned a drug-free Punjab in the near future.
Sports Promotion and Youth Engagement
The Chief Minister underscored his government’s focus on sports promotion to channel the energy of youth positively. The state has provided funds to players for preparing and excelling in sports events, resulting in Punjabis winning 19 medals in the recent Asian Games. Additionally, annual recruitment in the Punjab Police is aimed at inspiring youngsters to pursue law enforcement careers.
Crackdown on Drug Smuggling
The state government has intensified its efforts to combat drug smuggling, resulting in the arrest and imprisonment of many smugglers. This crackdown is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to tackle the drug menace.
Commemorating Martyrdom of Kartar Singh Sarabha
The rally also coincided with the martyrdom day of Kartar Singh Sarabha, a young revolutionary hanged by the British. Mann paid tribute to Sarabha and his six associates, recognizing their sacrifices for the country.
Widespread Participation in Rally
People from various backgrounds joined the 13-km bicycle rally, which started and ended at the university campus. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav also participated in the event, marking a united stand against drug abuse in the state.
