Aamir Wani, a talented and promising youth from Dadoora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has secured a place in Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), which is set to begin in October this year.
The 24-year-old all-rounder was auctioned for his base price of ₹9 lakh to Jaipur Pink Panthers, one of the most successful teams in PKL history.
Aamir was among 118 players who went under the hammer for PKL Season 11 on August 15 and 16 in Mumbai. Listed in the D category, Aamir is one of 12 players purchased by Jaipur Pink Panthers this season.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir over the phone, Aamir expressed his joy and gratitude for this achievement. “I have no words to express my happiness,” he said, adding that he had been working hard for the past four years to secure a place in the Pro Kabaddi League.
In March 2024, Aamir earned a coveted spot in a training camp that was organized to select players from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) for the prestigious 70th National Kabaddi Championship. The championship took place in Maharashtra from March 21 to 24.
Aamir told Rising Kashmir that he performed well in the championship, leading to his recommendation for the PKL auction, where his name was subsequently shortlisted.
Aamir is the first player from the Jammu and Kashmir Kabaddi Association to achieve this feat. He has previously represented J&K in the Yuva Kabaddi Series held in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in 2021.
Aamir has been honing his skills for the past three years at the Mid Line Academy in Maharashtra under the guidance of Coach Ankit Mhatre, whom he credited for his success.
He also expressed his gratitude to the J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association and its General Secretary, Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, for their efforts in providing a platform for nurturing young talent in the region.
Aamir also appreciated the support of the District Secretary of the Kabaddi Association in Pulwama, G. M. Ganaie, and Coaches Manik Sharma, Sudhesh Raina, and Mohammad Ameen for their invaluable guidance and training.
