Principal Secretary Inaugurates Refurbished Border Block Library in Kupwara
KUPWARA, 05 JULY 2024 : Principal Secretary for Culture, Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta, recently inaugurated the refurbished Border Block Library in Sogam, Kupwara. During the inauguration, he lauded the Libraries Department for their efforts in transforming public libraries into dynamic social hubs.
Highlighting the Department’s extensive plans, he noted the ongoing initiatives to expand public library facilities across Jammu & Kashmir, particularly in remote regions.
The Libraries Department is actively engaged in constructing new library buildings, as well as expanding and renovating existing ones to better serve the community. Technological advancements, such as automation and e-cataloguing, are being introduced to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of library services.
Sh. Gupta emphasized the importance of these developments in fostering a culture of reading and learning.Director of Libraries & Research, who was also present at the event, elaborated on the various measures being taken to reinvent public libraries.
These measures include providing career guidance and information services aimed at the youth, which have significantly contributed to the increased footfall in libraries. Students are particularly benefiting from the free learning resources available for competitive examination preparation.
