
Poonch Police Conducts Awareness Programmes on New Criminal Laws in Sub-Division Surankote

As part of its community engagement initiative and commitment to legal awareness, the Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a series of awareness programmes in 12 villages under Police Station Surankote on Monday. These sessions aimed at educating the public about key provisions and reforms introduced in the New Criminal Laws (NCLs).
During these interactions, police officers explained significant legal advancements, emphasizing modern technological integration, enhanced investigation procedures, and streamlined legal processes.
Senior officers, including SP Operations Surankote Sh. Sachin Gupta (JKPS) and SDPO Surankote Sh. Ajaz Choudhary (JKPS), along with a dedicated team of officers, conducted these awareness sessions across different villages. The key topics covered included:
• E-FIR & Zero FIR
• Complete digitization of legal procedures (from FIR registration to case diary, charge sheet, and judgment)
• Mandatory videography during searches, seizures, and recording statements in sexual offence cases
Police officers also highlighted how these legal reforms strengthen anti-terrorism measures, enhance investigative quality through scientific advancements, and ensure timely trials.
With an active participation of around 600 people, this initiative successfully reached a significant section of the community, fostering a better understanding of the new legal framework.
SSP Poonch, Sh. Shafket Hussain (JKPS), commended the efforts of the officers of Sub-Division Surankote for their proactive approach in educating the public on the New Criminal Laws and strengthening public-police relations.
