Police Seize Rs 45 Lakh Cash and 4.2 kg Charas in Major Operation in Shopian, Kashmir
In a significant operation, the police successfully seized approximately Rs 45 lakh in cash and 4.2 kg of Charas in the Mehloora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
SSP Shopian Tanushree reported that acting on specific intelligence, the police conducted raids on suspected locations in Mehloora, leading to the recovery of the substantial amount of cash and Charas weighing 4.2 kg from the residence of Farooq Ahmad Koka. The seized cash was found in various locations, including the cowshed, house, and shop. A case has been registered in connection with this incident, and an ongoing investigation is in progress.

Emphasizing a strict stance against drug peddlers, SSP Tanushree stated that those involved in drug peddling will face severe consequences. She urged parents and teachers to actively contribute to preventing young individuals from falling victim to drug addiction. Notably, this year, 13 individuals have been booked under PIT-NDPS in Shopian and are currently held in various jails across India. Additionally, the number of cases filed against drug peddlers has nearly doubled compared to the previous year.
SSP Tanushree highlighted the comprehensive efforts undertaken by Shopian police, including counseling for drug addicts and providing necessary medications. Collaboration with schools and colleges is also underway to engage the younger population and shield them from the clutches of this menace.
