Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years. The visit comes as both nations commemorate 70 years of diplomatic ties, highlighting the growing importance of their bilateral relationship.

During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. Discussions will focus on enhancing economic and political cooperation between the two nations.

Modi also plans to engage with the Indian community in Poland, further strengthening the cultural ties between the countries.

One of the key events of the visit will be the laying of a wreath at the memorial dedicated to Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji, the former Maharaja of Nawanagar (now Jamnagar).

The Maharaja is remembered for his humanitarian efforts during World War II when he established the Polish Children’s Camp in Jamnagar, providing refuge to Polish children who escaped the USSR.

Additionally, PM Modi will visit the monument to the Battle of Monte Cassino, commemorating the victory of the Second Polish Corps during World War II.

This battle saw the sacrifice of over 900 Polish soldiers in their successful effort to conquer the hill and its monastery.

Modi will also pay tribute at the Kolhapur Memorial, which honors the village in Kolhapur that hosted Polish children after they were moved from Jamnagar in 1945.

Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will proceed to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country.
