Pant clarifies decision to trust Rasikh with crucial 19th over
After Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a narrow four-run victory against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their recent IPL match, DC captain Rishabh Pant revealed that he entrusted the penultimate over to pacer Rasikh Salam. This decision came as Anrich Nortje, their main pace bowler, struggled throughout the match. Despite Nortje giving away 48 runs in three overs and taking just one wicket, Pant chose to give Rasikh the 19th over with 37 runs to defend. Rasikh managed to take a crucial wicket and conceded 18 runs.
Pant explained his decision, saying, “Nortje had a challenging game, and T20 can be unpredictable. Rasikh was bowling well, so I decided to back him. It’s all about captain’s instincts, and today it paid off.” He also mentioned that when DC was at 43/3, they aimed to target GT’s main spinners. Pant expressed his enjoyment of being back on the field after recovering from an injury, emphasizing the confidence he gains with more time spent batting.
Kuldeep highlights key points after DC’s narrow win over GT
In the match, GT won the toss and chose to bowl. DC had a shaky start but recovered thanks to Axar Patel’s 66 off 43 balls and Pant’s explosive 88* off 43 balls. They set a formidable total of 224/4. GT’s chase was spirited with contributions from Wriddhiman Saha (39), Sai Sudarshan (65), David Miller (55), and Sai Kishore (13), but DC’s bowlers held their nerve to secure the win. Rasikh Salam and Kuldeep Yadav were standout bowlers for DC.
Pant was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’. With this win, DC occupies the sixth position in the points table with four wins out of nine matches, while GT is just below them in seventh place, also with four wins but a lower net run rate.
