Narowal district in Pakistan faces a grave agricultural crisis as counterfeit fertilisers and pesticides wreak havoc on farmers, reports Dawn. Following tests on samples from 46 companies, authorities have taken legal action against 29 dealers accused of peddling fake agricultural inputs.

Wheat farmers bear the brunt of the scam, with 2,173 acres of crops destroyed, resulting in estimated losses exceeding PKR 300 million. Despite efforts to protect their crops, farmers like Muhammad Abrar and Kulsoom Bibi suffered complete crop failures due to counterfeit inputs.

Muhammad Tanveer, Deputy Director of Agriculture in Narowal, has spearheaded efforts to address the crisis by lodging FIRs against implicated dealers. However, the toll on farmers remains staggering, prompting calls for urgent government intervention for relief.
