Pakistan’s two major parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), are set to meet in the fifth round of talks to bridge differences and form a minority coalition government after an inconclusive election.

PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated to lead the country, with conditional support from PPP, which will vote for Sharif but refrain from taking cabinet positions.

The coalition aims to provide stability in a nation grappling with economic challenges, slow growth, high inflation, and rising radical violence.

The new government will need to negotiate an extended program with the International Monetary Fund, as its current support ends in March.

Sovereign dollar bonds fell in response to the election uncertainties.

The new government may also face tension from independent members alleging election rigging, backed by jailed former premier Imran Khan, despite denials from the caretaker government and election commission.
