
Delhi Police Removes Officer Sandeep Lamba From Jantar Mantar; MP Saket Gokhale Files Complaint
New Delhi, July 23 (VoM News): In a major move, a senior Delhi Police officer, who was seen slapping a woman during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) “Chalo Sansad Match” on July 20 has been removed from Jantar Mantar.
As per details gathered by VoM News, a video surfaces on social media showing him allegedly slapping a woman protester during the protest. The cop has been identified as
Sandeep Lamba, who is Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District), was seen slapping the protester, went viral on social media leading to the course of action.
As thousands of CJP supporters gathered to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, the forces resorted to heavy force, lathicharge and tear gas.
Anti-social Elements Entered the Protest Site, Not Even Listening To CJP: Police
Meanwhile, reports say that former Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale has filed a police complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Lamba over his conduct.
The officer’s conduct also came under scrutiny during a Delhi High Court hearing on petitions alleging excessive use of force against protesters.
The officer was seen assaulting a woman who was not posing any threat and urged the court to hold him accountable, as police allegedly used tear gas and baton charges without following standard crowd-control procedures,
Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan informs the court.
The Delhi High Court issued notices to the Delhi Police, the Centre and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), seeking their responses within four weeks. The court also directed authorities to preserve all CCTV footage and video recordings related to the police action.
