Pakistan Railways has taken a decisive step by instructing its personnel to recover unpaid debts from federal and provincial agencies for the use of its land and services. ARY News reported that the Ministry of Railways has urged these entities to settle billions of rupees in overdue payments promptly due to the department’s financial challenges.

The outstanding amount owed by various departments totals more than PKR 8,375 million, attributed to the utilization of Pakistan Railways’ land and services. Specifically, federal agencies owe PKR 709.084 million, provincial departments owe PKR 1980.217 million, and autonomous and private entities owe PKR 5685.736 million. Additionally, the relevant provincial government allocated funds to Pakistan Railways for the enhancement of unmanned level crossings nationwide.

According to a Ministry of Railways official, Pakistan’s railway network comprises two types of level crossings: unmanned and manned.

Unmanned crossings lack gate leaves, as highlighted by ARY News. The official mentioned that in 2013-14, Pakistan Railways, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, conducted a joint survey to identify accident-prone or vulnerable unmanned level crossings across the country.
