Pakistan PM Prioritizes Economic Recovery Despite Political Uncertainty
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently met with business leaders to discuss addressing economic issues, highlighting strong exports as a crucial tactic. The gathering in Karachi was overshadowed by concerns about political instability, despite the recognition of recent administration achievements.
Chief of the Arif Habib Group Arif Habib praised government efforts and called for more collaboration, proposing trade negotiations with India and rapprochement with imprisoned PTI leader Imran Khan. In order to treble exports in the following five years, Prime Minister Sharif placed more emphasis on industrial and agricultural expansion than political considerations.
But given the escalating cost of electricity, questions remained about whether such ambitious plans could actually be implemented. Industry leader Zubair Motiwala called attention to issues including high gas and energy costs and urged smart solutions to promote industrial expansion without putting a strain on finances.
Prime Minister Sharif promised stakeholders that he would continue to discuss comprehensive solutions, even in the face of political questions. At the end of the discussion, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to include stakeholders across the country, indicating a cooperative strategy for economic revival.
