The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir, has unequivocally declared that there will be no compromise with the planners and architects behind the May 9, 2023, attacks on military establishments in the country. Terming the attacks a ‘dark chapter in our history,’ General Munir made these remarks during an address to soldiers and officers of the Garrison at Corps Headquarters in Lahore.
Reflecting on the events of May 9, 2023, General Munir emphasized that the deliberate and insidious attacks orchestrated by miscreants targeted the symbols of the state, providing enemies of Pakistan with an opportunity to mock the nation. He condemned attempts to twist the narrative and implicate the state in these despicable acts, highlighting the brazen and shameless efforts of the plotters to evade responsibility.
Furthermore, General Munir warned against those who pose as victims and claim to be “real leaders,” asserting that individuals involved in sabotage and organized violence will be held accountable, particularly if there is undeniable evidence of their involvement. He underscored the limits of patience in the face of daily provocations, stressing that restraint should not be mistaken for weakness. These statements underscore the firm stance of the Pakistani military in ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s institutions and citizens.
