External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the relationship between India and the European Union (EU) as not only vital for each other but also consequential for the world. Speaking at the Europe Day Celebrations in New Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized that the EU is India’s largest economic partner, with deep-rooted ties across multiple domains and collaborations.
Acknowledging the importance of more resilient and reliable supply chains, Jaishankar underscored the need for stronger digital cooperation based on trust and transparency. He highlighted the role of India and the EU in contributing to global economic resilience and emphasized the potential for collaboration between the two entities.
Recognizing the EU’s contribution to initiatives like the India-Middle-East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), Jaishankar expressed India’s commitment to advancing such partnerships. He welcomed the EU’s increased interest in the Indo-Pacific region and appreciated their engagement in security domains, citing examples like the G20 Summit and G7 proceedings.
In his remarks, European Union envoy Herve Delphin echoed Jaishankar’s sentiments, emphasizing India’s growing importance for the EU. He highlighted the signing of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as a significant step towards deepening the partnership, aiming to boost investments and generate employment opportunities in India.
