Various lawyers’ bodies in Pakistan have petitioned the Supreme Court to constitute a full court to address alleged interference by intelligence agencies in judicial matters. Balochistan Bar Council and Balochistan High Court Bar have filed pleas, seeking court intervention and guidelines to prevent future incidents. They also request annulment of the government-formed one-man commission and strict punishment for those found meddling in judicial affairs.
The SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, is set to resume hearing on April 29, following a letter from Islamabad High Court judges regarding intelligence interference.
Former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani recused from heading the one-man commission, while Justice Afridi stepped back from the suo motu case, citing adherence to the Supreme Judicial Council’s code of conduct.
