Odisha’s Triumph Over Naxalism: A Tale of Steadfast Security and Social Welfare
In a significant development for Odisha, the Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state, Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma, has highlighted the considerable reduction in Naxalite activities. Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Sharma stated, “Naxalism is taking its last breath in Odisha.” He attributed this success to the relentless efforts of the BSF in collaboration with the Special Operation Group (SOG) and state police. This collaborative approach has effectively countered Naxalite strategies, ensuring peace not only in Odisha but also in neighboring states.
Strategic Operations and Public Welfare Initiatives
Sharma detailed the strategic operations undertaken by security forces to dismantle the Naxalite movement. Regular combing operations have been pivotal in significantly reducing Naxalite influence in the region. The BSF’s proactive stance, preemptively thwarting potential Naxalite plans, has forced the group to splinter into smaller factions. Sharma also emphasized the role of public welfare schemes by the state and central governments, which have played a crucial role in weakening the Naxalites’ influence among local communities.
Technological Advancements and Social Outreach
The BSF’s successful anti-Naxalite operations have been bolstered by technological advancements, including the use of drones for surveillance. These efforts, coupled with intelligence-based strategies, have led to the effective dismantling of Naxalite leadership in the state. In addition to security measures, the government has made significant strides in providing education, health care, technical knowledge, and internet services to remote areas. This multifaceted approach aims to prevent the resurgence of Naxalism. On December 1, as part of the BSF’s 59th rising day celebrations, there will be a special felicitation for the families of jawans who sacrificed their lives in anti-Naxal operations, marking a tribute to their valiant efforts.
