Odisha Police Arrest Sextortion Racket Operatives on Dating Apps
The Odisha Police have taken action against a “sextortion” racket involving dating apps and have arrested one individual while detaining four minor boys. This action follows written complaints from two victims in Bhubaneswar and Khurda.
The gang members involved in this racket used dating apps to engage in friendly conversations with potential victims. They lured them to a location in Bhubaneswar, where they reportedly recorded obscene videos and used them to blackmail the victims. The gang also threatened to circulate these videos on social media.
In addition to extortion through blackmail, the gang members stole valuables from their victims and made unauthorized transfers from their bank accounts.
Police Response
The Odisha Police have detained the minor boys and arrested an adult male involved in the racket. The investigation is ongoing to gather more information and evidence related to the case.
This incident highlights the importance of online safety and the need for individuals to exercise caution when engaging with strangers on dating apps. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to combat online crimes and protect potential victims from such schemes.
