Norwegian Refugee Council Head Shocked by Rafah Conditions
Jan Egeland, the secretary-general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, expressed shock at the dire conditions in Rafah, southern Gaza, citing malnutrition, epidemic diseases, and pervasive trauma.
During a visit to a school sheltering 4,500 displaced individuals who fled Gaza City and Khan Younis, he highlighted the appalling living conditions, revealing that the disabled, pregnant, and newborns share 18 latrines with thousands of others.

Egeland took to social media to convey the distressing situation, emphasizing the urgency of aid.
At the Rafah border crossing into Gaza, he noted the presence of hundreds of aid trucks waiting to assist a population he described as “starving.”
Criticizing the broken system for allowing aid into Gaza, he called on Israel to take corrective action for the sake of the innocent civilians.
