In a significant stride towards healthcare advancement, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced the establishment of North India’s first Government Homoeopathic Medical College in the Jasrota area of district Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. This centrally funded project, with an estimated cost of nearly Rs. 80 Crore, marks a pivotal moment for the region.

During his visit to the proposed college site in Jasrota village, Dr Jitendra Singh observed the commencement of the boundary wall construction. The minister, driven by a commitment to development, emphasized that the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency’s agenda, initiated in 2014, will persist beyond the election Code of Conduct, reflecting a dedication to continuous progress.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the requisition, Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the pride of Kathua in hosting this institution. Envisaged to sprawl over more than 8 acres, the college complex will include a hospital, a college, an administrative block, and separate hostels for male and female students. Additional plans for an auditorium and playground on the adjacent three acres showcase a holistic approach to education and healthcare.

Dr Jitendra Singh underscored the significance of the Homoeopathic College, not only as a boon for aspiring Homoeopathy professionals but also as a step towards providing cost-effective treatment to those in need. He aligned this initiative with the Modi government’s healthcare strategy, emphasizing the synergy of allopathic and Ayush streams, including Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, and naturopathy.
In a broader context, Dr Jitendra Singh asserted that the experience gained during the Covid pandemic reinforced the value of traditional Indian methods of medicine. He highlighted Kathua’s evolving medical infrastructure, positioning the district as an integrated and cost-effective healthcare center for North India in the foreseeable future.

Looking ahead, Dr Jitendra Singh envisions Kathua as North India’s cost-effective and state-of-the-art medical facilities hub. Despite critics questioning the development narrative, the minister humorously pointed out that even they benefit from the facilities brought in the last decade, including the establishment of medical colleges and Vande Bharat trains.
As the Express Road Corridor from Katra to Delhi nears functionality and the National Highway expands, reducing travel time to around four and a half hours, Dr Jitendra Singh sees the region poised to become a prime destination for education, trade, tourism, and revenue in North India. The next five-year term, he declared, will focus on consolidating gains and further developing the region.
