No Agreement Reached in US Iran Talks, Says JD Vance After 21 Hours of Negotiations

No Agreement Reached in US Iran Talks, Says JD Vance After 21 Hours of Negotiations

Islamabad, Apr 12 [VoM]: US Vice President JD Vance on Sunday said no agreement was reached with Iran after 21 hours of negotiations held in Islamabad, adding that Tehran had refused to accept Washington’s terms.

Addressing reporters after three rounds of talks that continued overnight, Vance said the outcome was “bad news for Iran more than the United States.”

“We have not reached an agreement. We made our red lines clear and what we are willing to accommodate. They have chosen not to accept our terms,” he said.

The negotiations come at a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high, with a fragile ceasefire hanging in the balance.

Vance said the United States was seeking a firm commitment from Iran that it would not pursue nuclear weapons in the future.

“Their previous enrichment facilities have been destroyed, but we do not see a commitment from them to not develop nuclear weapons going forward,” he added.

US President Donald Trump also weighed in on the talks, saying the United States had already achieved its objectives militarily, regardless of whether a deal is reached.

“Maybe they make a deal, maybe they don’t. From the standpoint of America, I don’t care,” Trump said, claiming that Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened.

Apart from the nuclear issue, discussions also focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that remains largely blocked amid the ongoing conflict.

US naval forces continue mine-clearing operations in the region, while Iran has warned that foreign military vessels attempting to pass through the strait would face consequences.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has killed thousands and disrupted global energy supplies, raising concerns across international markets.

Vance said the US remains open to a deal but stressed that any agreement would require clear and long-term assurances from Iran on its nuclear programme.
