NIA Arrests 15th Suspect in Coimbatore ISIS-Inspired Car Bomb Blast

In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the 15th accused in the ISIS-inspired car bomb blast case in Coimbatore, offering insight into the complex web of terror.

The NIA announced the arrest on Friday, shedding light on the incident where a suicide bomber was killed as his vehicle, loaded with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), exploded. Initially registered by the Ukkadam Police Station in Coimbatore, the case was later transferred to the NIA, who officially re-registered it on October 27th the previous year.

Conspiracy and Radicalization Exposed

The arrest of the suspect, Tahanaseer, uncovers the extent of the conspiracy and the process of radicalization behind the Coimbatore terror attack.

NIA’s investigation reveals Tahanaseer’s involvement in a plot with other accused individuals, including the suicide bomber, Jamesha Mubeen, and Mohammed Thoufeek, to execute the terror attack. This heinous act occurred in front of the ancient Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil temple at Eswaran Kovil street, Ukkadam in Coimbatore on October 23rd the previous year. The vehicle carrying the IED was driven by the deceased accused, Jamesha Mubeen, with both Tahanaseer and Mohammed Thoufeeq closely associated.

Digital Clues and Radical Ideology Unearthed

A closer look at digital evidence uncovers Tahanaseer’s possession of ISIS-inspired materials and attempts to elude law enforcement agencies.

Scrutinizing Tahanaseer’s digital devices reveals disturbing evidence. He possessed ISIS-inspired literature and made deliberate attempts to cover his tracks by deleting incriminating materials, utilizing specific mobile-based application software and apps. This was done following the terror incident, seemingly in a bid to evade the attention of law enforcement agencies, as reported by the anti-terror agency. Investigations also disclose that the deceased accused, Jamesha Mubeen, was deeply inspired and motivated by the radical ISIS ideology. He pledged allegiance to Abu-Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi, the self-proclaimed Caliphate of ISIS, prior to executing the terror attack, according to NIA’s statement.
