The next iteration of RAM, LPDDR6 (Low Power Double Data Rate 6 Random Access Memory), is anticipated to debut later this year, potentially in the third quarter. Expected to be integrated with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, LPDDR6 promises enhanced data transfer speeds and increased bandwidth compared to its predecessor, LPDDR5.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reportedly accelerating the mass production of LPDDR6 DRAM, aiming to establish dominance in the AI-driven industry. LPDDR6 is poised to deliver improved data bandwidth, facilitating faster processing of AI tasks on devices, according to a report by Korean publication AjuNews.

Anticipated Features and Launch Timeline

The Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) is slated to announce the specifications of LPDDR6 DRAM in September. Concurrently, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to unveil their LPDDR6 DRAM chips, further driving innovation in the memory technology landscape.

While specific performance metrics of LPDDR6 are currently undisclosed, it is anticipated to outperform its predecessors, LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X, in terms of data bandwidth. LPDDR6 is projected to be utilized in smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, enabling accelerated AI task processing. Notably, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series is rumored to feature LPDDR6 memory and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, potentially offering a competitive edge over rival flagship devices.

Outlook on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is expected to debut in October, boasting Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores. Coupled with LPDDR6 memory, this chipset is speculated to deliver superior performance compared to competitors, including Apple’s anticipated A18 Pro CPU cores, thereby shaping the landscape of mobile computing.
