Nepal and India Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation on Security and Defence: Building Stronger Ties and Cooperation
Nepal and India have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral cooperation on security and defence matters. During the 15th Meeting of the India-Nepal Bilateral Consultative Group on Security Issues (BCGSI) held in Pokhara, Nepal, the two nations addressed a wide range of issues to further strengthen their partnership in security, defence supplies, training, capacity building, and joint military exercises.
A Comprehensive Discussion
The discussions at the meeting encompassed various aspects of mutual security, with a focus on security cooperation, defence supplies, training and capacity building, and joint military exercises. Additionally, the two sides explored opportunities for exchanges of visits, joint expeditions, adventure activities, and cooperation in disaster management and information sharing.
Key Leaders in Attendance
The Indian delegation at the bilateral meeting was led by Anurag Srivastava, Joint Secretary (North) from the Ministry of External Affairs, India. On the Nepali side, Bhrigu Dhungana, Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the delegation. Both delegations included officials from their respective ministries of defence, foreign affairs, home affairs, as well as representatives from the Indian Army and the Nepali Army directorates.
Bilateral Consultative Group on Security Issues (BCGSI)
The BCGSI, established in 2003, serves as a crucial institutional mechanism for promoting defence and security cooperation between India and Nepal. It plays a vital role in facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and coordination on security-related matters, reinforcing the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between the two neighboring nations.
The meeting demonstrates both countries’ commitment to fostering stronger ties and cooperative efforts in various domains, contributing to regional stability and security.
