NC Emerges as Highest Winning Party with 42 seats; BJP and Congress win 29 and 6 Seats Respectively

In a significant comeback, the National Conference and Congress alliance has secured victory in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, as confirmed by the Election Commission. Following the completion of vote counting, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) emerged as the largest party, winning 42 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 29 seats, and Congress garnered 6 seats.
Additionally, seven independent candidates were elected from their respective constituencies.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 3 seats, Sajad Gani Lone’s Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) claimed 1 seat, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a notable debut by winning the Doda assembly seat with candidate Mehraj Malik defeating the BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) also secured a seat.
The BJP achieved a vote share of 25.64%, followed by the National Conference at 23.43%, and Congress at 11.97%. As a result of these outcomes, the National Conference-Congress alliance is set to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah, confirmed by his father Farooq Abdullah, will take on the role of Chief Minister. Farooq Abdullah expressed gratitude to voters, stating, “The people have given their mandate; they have shown they reject the decision taken on August 5.”
He emphasized the alliance’s commitment to addressing issues like unemployment and inflation. Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the BJP’s performance in these elections.
