Nawaz Sharif Returns to Pakistan After Four-Year Exile in London
Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif, has landed at Islamabad airport, marking his return to Pakistan after four years in London.
Umeed-e-Pakistan’s Historic Journey
PML-N, in a post on social media, shared, “Umeed e Pakistan has landed in Islamabad Alhumdulillah. NAWAZ SHARIF IS BACK IN HIS HOMELAND.” Nawaz Sharif’s legal team, including former law minister Senator Azam Tarar, and party leaders, welcomed him at the airport.
Consultations on Political and Legal Matters
Senator Azam Tarar stated that upon arrival, Nawaz Sharif would be consulted on political and legal issues. After landing, the PML-N supremo is set to head to the VIP lounge. Legal proceedings regarding security guarantees will also be completed.
Joyous Return and Warm Welcome
As Nawaz Sharif arrived at Dubai airport before his flight to Islamabad, he expressed his happiness, saying, “Today I am going to Pakistan after four years, and I am feeling very happy with the grace of Allah.” Supporters on the plane cheered the party supremo with slogans of “Nawaz Sharif for Prime Minister again.”
Grand Welcome and Timeline of Legal Cases
The PML-N party has prepared a grand welcome for the former PM, with party leaders and supporters converging in Lahore for the grand power show. Nawaz Sharif’s return comes after a tumultuous period, including legal battles and his disqualification by the Supreme Court in 2017, following the “Panama Papers” leaks.
High-Profile Cases and Legal Developments
A timeline of legal cases against Nawaz Sharif reveals his sentencing to ten years in jail in the Avenfield reference in 2018, his arrest along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and subsequent relief from the Islamabad High Court. However, in December of the same year, he faced a seven-year jail term in the Al-Azizia sugar mills reference.
