Naveen-ul-Haq Receives 20-Month Ban from International League T20
In a recent development, the International League T20 (ILT20) has imposed a 20-month ban on fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq due to a breach of his Player Agreement with Sharjah Warriors, the team that signed him for Season 1 of the tournament.
Although the Warriors extended an offer for an additional year in Season 2, Naveen declined to sign the retention notice, resulting in a dispute between the player and the team. Sharjah Warriors brought the matter to the ILT20 for resolution, seeking intervention in the disagreement.
The ILT20 initially attempted to resolve the issue through mediation facilitated by an independent third-party mediator. However, as the mediation efforts failed to yield a resolution, the league’s three-member Disciplinary Committee, comprising CEO David White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam, and Member of Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas, independently heard both parties involved.
After reviewing the evidence presented by Naveen and Sharjah Warriors, the committee delivered its final verdict, resulting in the imposition of a 20-month ban on Naveen for failing to fulfill his contractual obligations.
CEO of ILT20, David White, expressed regret over the necessity of this decision, emphasizing the significance of adhering to contractual commitments and acknowledging the potential harm that non-compliance can cause to the involved parties. White underscored that Naveen-ul-Haq’s failure to honor his contractual obligations left the league with no choice but to impose the ban.
The disciplinary proceedings were conducted transparently, ensuring both parties had opportunities to prepare and present their submissions, culminating in the league’s decision to sanction Naveen for his breach of contractual obligations.
