Nasser Hussain Identifies Future Cricket Legends: Shubman Gill and Rachin Ravindra
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has pinpointed two rising stars he believes will become future cricket legends. In a video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Hussain named Indian opener Shubman Gill and New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra as players set for greatness.
Speaking highly of Gill, Hussain praised his outstanding performance throughout most of 2023, underscoring his immense talent and potential. Despite a dip in form due to illness toward the year’s end, Gill emerged as a standout talent, poised to become India’s next sensation in cricket.
Gill’s impressive statistics in international cricket this year attest to his prowess. Notably, he amassed 2,126 runs in 47 matches with an average of 48.31, featuring seven centuries and 10 fifties. He capped off the year as the highest run-scorer in international cricket.
While Gill is establishing himself in Tests and T20Is, he shone brightly in ODIs, securing the top batter rank with 1,584 runs at an average of 63.36 and a remarkable strike rate of over 105. However, his T20I performance in 2023 was comparatively subdued, scoring 312 runs in 13 innings at an average of 26.00.
Regarding Rachin Ravindra, Hussain acknowledged his stellar contributions during New Zealand’s tour of England and his phenomenal display in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Ravindra emerged as a standout performer in the tournament, scoring 578 runs in 10 matches at an average of 106.44, featuring three centuries and two fifties.
Ravindra’s overall performance this year in 37 international matches showcased his versatility, with 911 runs at an average of 36.44, accompanied by 23 wickets across all formats. His ODI statistics stand out, boasting 820 runs in 25 matches with three centuries and three fifties, highlighting his potential as a top-order batter.
Despite limited exposure in Tests and T20Is, Rachin Ravindra’s promising display positions him as a player to watch across formats, with fans eager to witness his future exploits, particularly in different batting positions.
