Minor Earthquake Jolts Kishtwar Early Wednesday Morning

An earthquake measuring 2.4 magnitude on Richter scale, hits kishtwar in early hours of Wednesday. The earthquake with its epicenter located at latitude 33.18 and longitude 75.89, was felt today at around 05:14:52 IST.

The epicenter lies 154 kilometers south of Kargil in Ladakh and 160 kilometers northwest of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. It was also located 166 kilometers southwest of Alchi (Leh), 169 kilometers southeast of Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, and 177 kilometers northwest of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh.

National Centre For Seismology also confirmed the earthquake (seismic event) in a ‘X’ post.

Prior to this, Tremors were felt across Jammu Kashmir, when an earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitude hits Hindukush region of Afghanistan, triggering the panic in areas of central Asia.

As Jammu Kashmir lies is seismic zone IV, a major earthquake can also prove fatal, it authority needs to be alert all the time to tackle any assessment.
