Melania Trump Named in Newly Released Jeffrey Epstein Files; 2002 Email With Ghislaine Maxwell Surfaces

Washington: First Lady Melania Trump’s name has surfaced in the latest tranche of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents released by the US Justice Department, which made public more than three million pages of records linked to the disgraced financier and his associates.

Among the documents is a friendly email exchange dated October 23, 2002, between Melania Trump—then a model—and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate who was later convicted of sex trafficking-related crimes. The correspondence predates Melania’s marriage to Donald Trump in 2005.

In the email, Melania complimented Maxwell on a New York Magazine article about Epstein and expressed interest in meeting her. Addressing Maxwell as “G,” she wrote:
“Dear G, How are you? Nice story about JE in NY mag. You look great in the picture.”

She also referred to Epstein’s recent visit to Palm Beach, adding, “I know you are very busy flying all over the world. How was Palm Beach? I cannot wait to go down.” She signed off warmly: “Give me a call when you are back in NY. Have a great time! Love, Melania.”

Maxwell replied affectionately, calling Melania “sweet pea,” and explained that her travel plans had changed and she was returning to New York, but said her schedule might not allow them to meet. “I leave again on Friday, so I still do not think I have time to see you, sadly. I will try and call, though,” Maxwell wrote.

The New York Magazine article referenced in the email later gained notoriety for quoting Donald Trump as saying that Epstein liked women “on the younger side.”

The newly released files also include references to Melania Trump in later communications. In a 2017 email—when Donald Trump was serving as US president—Epstein wrote to author Michael Wolff: “Some journalists working a lead on a Melania boyfriend.”

The document dump mentions several other high-profile figures, including President Donald Trump, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and British billionaire Richard Branson. Inclusion in the files does not imply wrongdoing.

Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019 in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking minors, in what authorities ruled a suicide.
