Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to assist 27 stranded citizens from the state who embarked on a Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Israel. The escalating tension between Israel and Palestine has left these individuals stranded in Bethlehem. Sangma expressed his commitment to ensuring their safe return home, underscoring the urgency of the situation amidst the ongoing conflict.
Meghalaya’s Citizens Stranded in Bethlehem
As the volatile situation unfolds in Israel, the plight of Meghalaya’s citizens caught in the crossfire has drawn the attention of the state’s leadership. Sangma’s proactive engagement with the MEA reflects the commitment to safeguard the well-being and security of citizens, especially those undertaking religious pilgrimages to sacred destinations.
Escalation of Conflict in Israel
The situation in Israel has escalated dramatically, with more than 100 casualties reported in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a “murderous surprise attack” by Hamas. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, injuries, and civilian displacement. Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that the fighting is ongoing, with security forces responding to Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israeli communities and took civilians hostage.

Prime Minister Netanyahu conveyed Israel’s firm resolve to address the situation, emphasizing that Israel is at war and not merely engaged in an operation or rounds of conflict.
