Massive Tourist Influx Marks Himachal Pradesh During Festive Season
During the festive period, Himachal Pradesh witnessed a substantial influx of tourists, notably on Christmas Eve and ahead of the New Year celebrations.
Tourist hotspots, especially the 9.2-km Atal Tunnel in Rohtang, experienced a significant surge in visitors, emphasizing the state’s allure during this festive season.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended a warm welcome to the multitude of tourists, stating that the state has received a tremendous number of visitors, amounting to lakhs.
He specifically highlighted the gathering of approximately 65,000 tourists at Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, arriving in over 12,000 vehicles on Sunday.
Sukhu commended the efforts of the district administration and the police in efficiently managing the surge in tourists, particularly in the challenging -12 degrees Celsius temperature at the North and South portals of Rohtang Tunnel.
Sukhu emphasized the state’s resilience in bouncing back from past challenges and showcased the readiness of Himachal Pradesh to greet tourists.
DGP Sanjay Kundu noted that a substantial number of tourists have explored various parts of the state.
Sharing glimpses of the bustling Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, Kundu praised the relentless efforts of the local administration and the police forces from Lahaul Spiti and Kullu districts.
He highlighted their tireless 24×7 dedication in smoothly managing traffic and ensuring the safe passage of everyone despite challenging weather conditions.
Ahead of Christmas Eve celebrations, the Kullu district police made special arrangements to maintain peace and ensure safety during the festivities.
They devised a comprehensive police action plan, deploying CCTV cameras and drones for strict vigilance.
The police are working tirelessly to ensure a safe and secure trip for tourists, especially considering the potentially hazardous road conditions caused by snow and black ice during the evenings.
