Marriage Scam Unveiled in Baramulla, North Kashmir; One Arrest Made

The Jammu and Kashmir Police recently uncovered a marriage scam and arrested a fraudster in Baramulla district regarding the incident.

According to police reports, a written application was received by the Police Post Delina from Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, indicating that his brother’s marriage was scheduled for December 31, 2023. The groom’s family was supposed to fetch the bride from Thana Mandi, Rajouri. However, both families were unacquainted and were solely in communication through a middleman named Sharif Ah Gaasi from Kakapora, Pulwama, who ceased responding to their calls.

Consequently, a case was registered under relevant sections of the law in the Baramulla Police Station, prompting an investigation.

The police swiftly launched an operation, tracing the middleman to Srinagar. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the individual had deceitfully defrauded the family by falsely promising marriage and illegally obtaining an amount of Rs. 1.18 lakhs from them.

The accused was subsequently arrested and held in custody at the Police Station Baramulla. Further investigation into the case is ongoing, as stated in the official police report.
