Manish Sisodia Granted Permission to Visit Ailing Wife
Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was granted temporary leave from Tihar Jail to visit his ailing wife at their residence. The permission for this visit was granted by a city court, allowing Sisodia a six-hour window between 10 am and 4 pm to be with his wife.
Sisodia’s Arrival at Home
Sisodia, who is currently incarcerated in connection with an alleged liquor scam case, arrived at his home on Mathura Road around 10 am. He was transported in a prison van and accompanied by police personnel, as per the stipulations of his temporary release.
Previous Permission and Health Issues of Sisodia’s Wife
This is not the first time Sisodia has been granted permission to meet his wife. In June, the Delhi High Court had allowed him a similar visit. However, he could not meet her then due to her hospitalization following a sudden deterioration in her health condition. Sisodia’s wife suffers from multiple sclerosis, a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system.
Court’s Conditions for the Visit
The court, while permitting Sisodia to meet his wife, specified that he must not engage with the media or participate in any political activities during this time. This condition was set to ensure that the focus of the visit remained personal and not political.
Sisodia’s Political Career and Arrest
A senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sisodia held the position of Deputy Chief Minister and was in charge of various portfolios, including the Excise Department, in the Arvind Kejriwal government. Following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February, he resigned from his positions. Despite his arrest, his family continued to live at his official residence on Mathura Road, which he shared with Education Minister Atishi.
Recent Developments in Sisodia’s Case
Manish Sisodia’s legal battles continue as his bail application related to the case was recently rejected by the Supreme Court. His arrest and the ongoing legal proceedings have been a significant development in Indian politics, given his prominent role in the AAP government.
