Make the Road States Condemns Passage of Spending Reconciliation Bill
The spending bill, which provides unparalleled funding for Trump’s mass deportation agenda, now heads to the House
NEW YORK – Today, the Senate approved the budget reconciliation bill on a narrow 51-50 vote. The bill, which includes unprecedented amounts of funding for immigration detention and enforcement, also strips millions of Americans of their healthcare access. Theo Oshiro, Co-Executive Director of Make the Road States, released the following statement in response:
“This massive budget reconciliation bill has only one purpose – to further the Trump administration’s agenda of immigration enforcement expansion. Under the current administration, Americans have seen children deported, families separated, and communities and businesses raided and harmed by masked ICE officers. This bill would allow for more of these harms while simultaneously stripping Americans of their healthcare coverage. States would be overwhelmed, essential funding would be cut, and our immigrant communities would be further terrorized. As the bill heads back to the House, we urge all representatives to listen to their constituents and vote no on this bill.
