Major Drug Bust in Assam: STF Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 11 Crore

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police has made a significant breakthrough in its anti-drug operations. In a major operation in Assam’s Kamrup district, the STF seized a large quantity of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 11 crore, and apprehended two drug peddlers.

Successful Operation Led by Senior Officials

The operation, conducted on Thursday night, was spearheaded by DIG (STF) Parthasarathi Mahanta and Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), Kamrup cum Additional SP, STF, Kalyan Kumar Pathak. Based on reliable information, the STF team intercepted a vehicle at Amingaon in Kamrup district, which was traveling from Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

Discovery and Seizure of Drugs

Upon searching the vehicle, the STF team discovered 98 packets of heroin, weighing 1.350 kg (excluding packaging), concealed in hidden compartments. The two individuals apprehended during the operation were identified as Tomizur Rahman of Wangoi and Abdul Rahim of Lilong, Manipur. Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated at the STF police station.

Previous Seizures in Nagaon District

This significant seizure follows a similar operation on November 11 in Assam’s Nagaon district, where a joint police team from Samaguri and Khatowal police stations, led by the SDPO of Kaliabor, conducted a raid in Gerukamukh village. In that operation, the police seized 464 grams of heroin, cash worth Rs 1,92,350, a motorcycle, and two cars. One person was apprehended in connection with this seizure.

Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings

The Assam Police are continuing their investigations into these incidents. The recent operations highlight the ongoing efforts of the state police in combating the drug menace, particularly in the northeastern region of India, which has been a significant area of concern for drug trafficking and substance abuse.
