In a recent event organized by Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), a focused discussion on women-centric legislation and empowerment initiatives shed light on the journey of women from facing societal evils to excelling in various fields of life.
The event, spearheaded by advocate Omar Rather and gender specialists Humerah Balwan and Sanya Khan, aimed to raise awareness about women-centric schemes, the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and prevalent social issues such as domestic violence, dowry, child marriage, eve-teasing, and harassment.
The session emphasized the importance of legal awareness and support in combating these challenges and promoting gender equality.
Advocate Omar Rathore, representing the DLSA, delivered a poignant message on the necessity of women’s empowerment. He highlighted the strides made in empowering women and stressed the significance of self-sufficiency among women, paving the way for women-led empowerment initiatives.
The discourse underscored the evolution of women’s status over time, transitioning from oppressive practices like the Sati system to women excelling in every aspect of life. From breaking gender barriers in fields such as science, technology, politics, and business, women have showcased their resilience and capability when provided with equal opportunities and support.
Efforts towards women’s empowerment continue to focus on providing education, skills training, economic opportunities, healthcare access, and legal rights to women.
By creating an inclusive environment that supports women’s growth and leadership, societies can foster a future where women play a pivotal role in decision-making and societal progress.
The event served as a reminder of the collective commitment needed to uplift and empower women, ensuring their full participation and contribution to the development of a more equitable and just society.
This event concluded week 6 of the 100-day program with the theme of legal awareness, where five legal awareness camps were conducted to empower women and girls with knowledge of legal provisions available to them.
