Landslides Block Jammu-Srinagar Highway Due to Rain
The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police department stated that rainfall triggered shooting stones in Kishtwari Pather, leading to a traffic stop on the crucial Jammu-Srinagar national highway. This 270-kilometer road is vital, linking Kashmir to the rest of India. Earlier, a blockage had occurred in Banihal, but authorities acted swiftly to resume traffic.
Rain in the Ramban and Banihal areas had raised concerns about shooting stones along different parts of the highway. However, with the rain stopping this morning, traffic was allowed from both Jammu and Srinagar.
Srinagar-Leh Highway Shut Due to Snowfall
“By 5 PM, ongoing shooting stones at Kishtwari Pather completely stopped traffic,” said a traffic official. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) promptly sent teams and equipment to clear the road. There were reports of minor shooting stones from hills in other areas as well, and by late evening, the highway remained closed to traffic.
This sudden stop left many travelers stranded. Despite the rain, authorities worked to clear debris and make the road usable again.
Given the current situation, authorities advise against traveling on this highway until conditions improve and the road is fully cleared.
