Kharge’s Call for Nationwide Caste Census

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge reaffirmed the party’s demand for a nationwide caste census, emphasizing the need for an “Affirmative action policy” under “Participatory Justice” to initiate revolutionary change in the country. In his social media post, Kharge criticized the BJP government’s economic policies, highlighting stark wealth disparities and income inequality over the past decade.

Kharge pointed out that the richest 1 percent in India holds a disproportionate share of national income, while a significant portion of households earns below the proposed national minimum wage. He underscored the staggering growth in billionaires’ net worth during the Modi government’s tenure, juxtaposed with the plight of marginalized communities.

    Congress’s Commitment to Participatory Justice

Kharge outlined the Congress party’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive social, economic, and caste census as part of its “Participatory Justice” agenda. This census aims to assess the socio-economic status of all castes and communities, their share in national wealth, and their representation in governance institutions. Kharge asserted that implementing such an affirmative action policy would bring revolutionary change in the country.
