Kenyan President Ruto’s State Visit to India: Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto is set to embark on a state visit to India from December 4 to 6, following an invitation from President Droupadi Murmu. This marks President Ruto’s first visit to India in his current role, and he will be accompanied by a high-level official delegation.
Ceremonial Welcome and State Banquet
Upon his arrival, President Ruto will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on December 5, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). President Murmu will also host a State Banquet in honor of the Kenyan President, symbolizing the warm relations between the two countries.
Meetings with Indian Leaders
During his stay, President Ruto will engage in detailed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These meetings are anticipated to cover a range of topics, further strengthening the ties between Kenya and India.
Business and Investment Event Participation
President Ruto will also participate in a business and investment event in New Delhi. This engagement underscores the significance of economic and trade relations between the two nations.
Revitalizing Long-Standing Relations
This visit, the first presidential visit from Kenya to India in over six years, is expected to rejuvenate and enhance the bilateral relations between India and Kenya.
Ruto Praises India-Kenya Relationship
Ahead of his visit, President Ruto praised the bilateral relationship between India and Kenya, describing it as “fantastic.” He expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for his role in ensuring that the African Union (AU) becomes a permanent member of the G20.
India’s Support for African Union in G20
PM Modi’s proposal earlier in June to include the African Union as a permanent G20 member was a significant move, demonstrating India’s support for greater representation of African nations in global forums. This inclusion was formalized during the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit, where PM Modi invited AU Chairperson Azali Assoumani to join the G20 leaders as a permanent member.
Continuing Dialogue and Collaboration
The upcoming visit of President Ruto is a reflection of the ongoing dialogue and collaboration between India and Kenya, and is expected to pave the way for new avenues of cooperation, particularly in economic, cultural, and diplomatic spheres.
