In the ongoing year up to March, Kashmir has been plagued by road accidents, with over 1200 incidents resulting in 185 fatalities and 1530 injuries. Srinagar district topped the list with 96 accidents, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
Data from the JK Traffic Police indicates that out of 1214 accidents documented, 144 were fatal and 1070 non-fatal. Srinagar alone witnessed 39 accidents in March, leading to 6 fatalities and 42 injuries.
Anantnag district followed closely behind with 53 accidents, while Baramulla recorded the highest number of fatalities at 13 deaths. Concerned residents like Mukhtar Ahmad stress the importance of immediate action to address this alarming trend, calling for enhanced public awareness, infrastructure development, and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to ensure safer roads for everyone.
