Karachi Train Narrowly Escapes Catastrophe as Bomb Defused
In a tense early morning operation on December 23, 2023, Karachi averted a potential disaster when an explosive device, weighing 5 kilograms, was found and successfully defused on the Awam Express train at Karachi Cantt Station. Authorities, led by the Bomb Disposal Squad, acted swiftly upon receiving credible information, neutralizing the bomb linked to a timing device and a motorcycle battery, set to detonate around noon en route to Sukkur or Rohri in northern Sindh.
Timely Response and Neutralization
Prompt action by the police and Bomb Disposal Squad prevented a probable catastrophe. The squad executed a controlled blast to disarm the bomb, concealed in a black and red school bag under a train seat. The intended detonation, poised to occur in a strategic location along the train’s route, was thwarted just in time.

While the investigations into this alarming incident are ongoing, Raja Umar Khattab from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) hinted at potential connections to a separatist group. However, official confirmation is pending, and law enforcement agencies continue their inquiries into the matter.
