Jammu and Kashmir police announced on Wednesday the arrest of an individual linked to the Reasi terror attack that resulted in nine fatalities and 33 injuries. The arrest follows the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking over the case on June 17 to conduct a thorough inquiry into the underlying conspiracy behind the attack.
The NIA assumed control of the investigation from Jammu and Kashmir Police on June 15, filing a new First Information Report (FIR) under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ orders. The attack, which occurred on June 9, targeted a bus carrying pilgrims, coinciding with the swearing-in ceremony of the Union Cabinet, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
The tragic event saw the bus fall into a gorge in Reasi district after being attacked, causing significant casualties. A day later, an NIA team visited the site to assist local police and assess the situation. The NIA’s forensic team also collected evidence from the scene.
The NIA, India’s leading counter-terrorism agency, frequently collaborates with state police to handle high-profile and sensitive cases. The Reasi attack involved terrorists targeting a bus transporting pilgrims from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra. The attack occurred at around 6:10 PM in Teryath village, Pouni area of Reasi district, near the Rajouri district border.
