JK Congress Launches 15-Day Campaign for Statehood Restoration
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra announced a 15-day campaign to push for the restoration of statehood to J&K, starting from Udhampur on February 13.
Karra criticized the BJP for failing to fulfill its promise of restoring statehood, saying, “We have doubts about their intentions.” He expressed concerns over growing public cynicism, stating that despite high voter participation, people feel their daily issues remain unresolved.
Highlighting the demand for statehood as a key issue before and after the assembly elections, Karra reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of their commitments made both inside and outside Parliament. He accused the government of deliberately delaying the process and showing a “cold attitude” toward the people’s rights.
The campaign, titled “Our State, Our Right,” aims to accelerate pressure on the Centre. Karra emphasized that J&K’s 175-year-old Dogra legacy is being disregarded and accused the BJP of betraying the people.

Paying tribute to the two army personnel who lost their lives in an IED blast near the LoC in Akhnoor, Karra said such attacks expose the government’s claims that “everything is fine.” He demanded accountability, stating that security forces operate directly under the Centre, which must take responsibility for the rising terror incidents.
Karra also called for a judicial probe into the recent suicide of a young man in Kathua, allegedly due to police harassment, and urged the government to curb rising crime in Jammu.
He further criticized the dual power structure in the Union Territory, which he believes has caused administrative confusion. “People voted to resolve their everyday issues—electricity, roads, water, and ration—but they feel let down,” he said, adding that the delayed statehood restoration is worsening public frustration.
Karra expressed hope that the committee formed to finalize business rules will soon present its report, helping address governance challenges and provide relief to the people.
